A Blessing For You

Image
Google Images I’m not sure if the Irish have cornered the market on blessings, but they certainly have a lot of them. Here are a few: May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow. May the soft winds freshen your spirit. May the sunshine brighten your heart May the burdens of the day rest lightly upon you. And may God enfold you in the mantle of His love. May you have warm words on a cold evening, a full moon on a dark night, and the road downhill all the way to your door. May you have the hindsight to know where you've been the foresight to know where you're going and the insight to know when you're going too far. May God grant you many years to live, For sure he must be knowing. The earth has angels all too few. And heaven is overflowing. and my personal favourite: May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields and, Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His ha...

Christmas and Other Things

I'm posting over at Journezine this morning (thanks, Laury) so go over and check it out: http://www.journezine.com/on-this-particular-christmas-day/ But I do have a verse for today. The whole book of Colossians was my assignment this morning but I didn't have to go far to find an "aha." Paul begins the letter by complimenting the Colossian believers on the wonderful reports he's received about them. Because of what he has heard the apostle has been praying for that church and his prayer is a significant one. " For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you" (1:9a, NIV). We're going to stop there for a second. I confess that as my prayer list gets longer, the content of my prayers for individuals gets shorter. But Paul didn't settle for a "Lord, bless the Colossian church." He must have a had a huge prayer list, but the length of the list didn't stop him from being specific about what he ...

Springing Spring and Other Things

Image
Okay, I admit there are still a few more days to go until official spring but the cats are happy—the sun streaming through the windows is pretty convincing. Mind you, if they had to go outside they might not be too impressed. I've had some great stuff from the Scriptures to share over the last days but can't seem to get myself organized to post every day. It's frustrating because I hate to be so sporatic, but hopefully once life gets a little more settled, that will change. I can't say when life will get "more settled"—that part is a "God-thing" that I am leaving up to him to put into place. This morning's reading was from Deuteronomy 13-16. I had a question last night that I was looking for an answer for and this morning's reading gave me the divine instruction. I share it with you because in these tough economic times, it is an application that all of us need to be reminded of. " There should be no poor among you, for in the land the L...

Room With a View

My birthday present to myself—a room with a view. I listened to the thunder of the waters as they poured over the falls from the Canadian side of our mutual border. And as I looked at the beauty and power of a natural phenomena that no "accident" can explain, I could only praise the One of whom the Scriptures speak in Psalm 103:22: " Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Lord, O my soul ." May God's Spirit flood our Dominion of Canada as these majestic waters flood the gorge below.

A Gentle Reminder

I just signed a contract to publish the English version of my book, Diseño Divino (Divine Design). Celebrating is in order. None of this would have happened if God hadn't been in the project from start to finish. But just in case I am tempted to forget that, today's verses are a gentle reminder. " Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others " —Philippians 2:3, 4. In the midst of working on the Spanish version, there was little time for anything else. When I get back to Caracas the whole business of marketing this book will consume a lot of time. Now I will work through the same process with the English version. My challenge will be to remember that while all that is important it can't take precedence over spiritual interests that concern others. The book is part of that but only a part. My mission is not peddli...
